Did you know that according to the American Christmas Tree Association, Christmas trees alone result in 13 million dollars, annually, in property damage?

Many Americans will be venturing out this weekend or the next to find that perfect holiday tree. Whether you prefer an artificial beauty or a fresh smelling, needle growing pine, there are a few safety tips to remember:

  • Please keep trees away from any flame or heat sources. If the tree sits close enough to your fireplace, it could get hot enough to smoke and then burn.  It happened to me, and within an hour the whole house was full of smoke. Thankfully, no fire.
  • Be careful with tree lights that have been damaged over the years. Replace them.
  • And lets not forget our 4-legged friends. As your tree may be coated with harmful sprays such as fire retardant, fertilizer or insecticide – please keep them at bay from your tree.
